
This Wednesday, the students in grades 5/6 will engage in student led conferences. I have attached the Peer Conferencing Questions for students to look over prior to Wednesday. Students will have an hour to practice before the conferences begin, but they may want to practice at home prior to Wednesday.
Please be sure that students bring a snack.
Here is the schedule for Wednesday, 1/25:
9:00- 10:00 - Students practice peer conferences
10:00-10:15 - Snack
10:15 - 11:00 - Students get into groups of 5 or 6 to share their portfolios with peers and adult facilitator of the group
11:00-11:30 - Parents in attendance will have the opportunity to ask questions of the group. If parents plan to attend, please be there by 10:15.
The day ends at 11:30 - there is no regular class that day

The students will assemble their semester one portfolios this week in class. Please see the Portfolio Contents Rubric for scoring guidlines. The students should plan to bring to class:
- 1.5 - 2" binder
- 2 - 5 math/science work samples (samples include all math unit tests to date; science labs/worksheets with evidence of student learning. These can be drawings, photos or other creative means of scientific documentation to be included in student portfolio)
- A minimum of 10 sheet protectors
- Tab dividers (student may create them in class if time allows)

Attention Fifth Grade Students,
We will be participating this year in the Math Matters competition on March 3. Maui students in grades 3, 4 & 5 are invited to participate at this exciting event. We will have our first practice session next Tuesday, Jan. 17 at St. Theresa's from 2:00-2:45, where we will determine the final eight participants.

Aloha Fifth and Sixth Grade Students,
Tomorrow is our trip to Times Supermarket to grocery shop for our virtual families. Each group will be assigned one adult, and will stay with that adult for the duration of the visit. No student will stray from their group. Parents, please reinforce this at home. Also, students be sure to wear your KCS t-shirt!
Once again, we will be participating in the annual Math Matters competition. The competition will he held on March 3 and includes schools throughout Maui. Students in grades 3, 4 & 5 may participate in the event. The first practice will be Tuesday, January 17 at St. Theresa's from 2-2:45. We are able to take up to eight students to the final competition. Please let me know if your are interested in joining us!
