Aloha,
I can hardly believe that we are down to the last two of weeks of class. Where did the time go? Here are some important dates/messages before we say good bye for the summer.
Exhibition
The 5/6 students have been very busy getting ready for their upcoming exhibition. Parents, please discuss with your child their plan for the event. They all have such great ideas, but may need some direction. Next week is the last class period before the event and students should plan to bring in materials they have decided on.
One of the activities a group has chosen is a student store. The students are asking for donations of small toys, games, books and other items that children in grades K – 3 might like. The younger students will be learning to make “change” when purchasing items in the store. If you have done any spring cleaning and you find that you have small items that your child has outgrown, please send them to school with your student.
Portfolios:
Students will assemble their second semester portfolios at home. Please include math journals, math unit assessments, science work – including creative ways to show science experiments and investigations. Classwork for math/science was sent home yesterday. Please include any science method activities and other completed work that students have chosen to be included in the portfolio. All work should have name/date. Completed portfolios are due May 23.
Here are the final calendar dates for the year:
May 16 – Last day to work on exhibition plans in class
May 22 (Tuesday) – Exhibition 10:00 – 11:30
May 23 – Last day of face to face class/Portfolio due
June 6 – Last day of OLS – Potluck picnic at Giggle Hill Park in Haiku 11:00-1:00
Let me know if you have any questions-
Aloha,
This week the students will work on their exhibition project - I promise! All students should come to class prepared to share some of their great ideas for the project. They will be making a list of material needs for the next class.
For the next two Fridays, our students in grades 3 - 8 will be taking round three of the HSA assessment. If you have not received a call/email and are unsure if your student should plan to attend one of the days, please let me know.
As a reminder, students should not bring hand-held computer devices to school. If they bring cell phones, they should be used to communicate with parents only.
The year is winding down rapidly, and I can tell that the students have grown in leaps and bounds - both physically and academicly. Parents, give yourself a huge pat-on-the back for being such terrific teachers! The end of the school year is near and you deserve an A+ for your efforts!
See y'all on Wednesday!
Aloha,
The 5/6 grade students began to plan for their exhibition today. They will create a math activity/game for our virtual students in grades K – 3. Parents, please ask your student about the grade level they have chosen to work with, and help them with any ideas they may have. The students all had some terrific ideas for activities, but they may need assistance in choosing just one, or possibly two activities for the event. These activities for the little ones should be fun and engaging for the little ones!
The students will have time to work on their activity each Wednesday they come to class. This is a group project and every student will participate.
The exhibition is on Tuesday, May 22 at St. Theresa’s; Time TBA
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me.
Have a great week!
